Terms
Terms of Use
The short version: the tools are free, you keep whatever you make with them, and the colours are provided without warranty. The full terms are below.
Agreement
By using colourwheel.org you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. They apply to every page and tool on the domain.
What you may use the site for
The colour wheel, palette generator, converters, contrast checker and guides are free to use for personal, educational and commercial work. You do not need an account, and you do not need to credit the site.
You may not use the site in a way that breaks the law, attempts to disrupt or overload it, scrapes it at a volume that degrades service for others, or presents it as your own product.
Colours, codes and palettes
Colour values are facts rather than creative works, so nothing generated here is licensed to you or restricted by us. HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK values you obtain from the tools are yours to use however you like, including in client work, products and print.
The written articles on this site are different: the text is our own work and is protected by copyright. You are welcome to quote short passages with a link back, but not to republish whole pages.
Accuracy and warranties
The tools and guides are provided “as is”. Colour conversion and harmony generation are deterministic calculations and are accurate within the limits of their colour models, but we make no warranty that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.
In particular, CMYK values are a mathematical conversion from RGB rather than a colour-managed one. For print production, always confirm values with your printer and their ICC profile. Contrast ratios follow the WCAG formula, but meeting a ratio is not a guarantee that a design is accessible in every context.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the site, including lost profits, wasted time, printing costs, or decisions made on the basis of a colour, contrast result or guide. You use the site at your own risk.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Availability and changes
The site is provided free of charge and may be changed, suspended or discontinued at any time without notice. Pages and tools may be added, altered or removed, and URLs may change. We aim to keep the site online but make no commitment to do so.
Third-party links and services
Pages may link to other websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, terms or privacy practices. If advertising or analytics is added in future, those third-party providers will operate under their own terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from use of the site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated to reflect changes to the site. The revised version takes effect when it is published on this page, and the review date below will change.
